Solar Swimming Pool HeatingSolar pool heating can in principle be done with many many different technologies. Boxed and glazed collectors like the ones seen all over Europe for heating hot water can be used. Evacuated tubes mostly made in China can theoretically be used. The standard and most common apporoach is unglazed plastic solar collectors. We call them swimming pool collectors. There are roughly 40 manufacturers worldwide and this has always been the most viable and feasible solar energy application. Unglazed plastic solar panels are low cost enough they can actually compete with fossil fuels. Swimming pool collectors are also efficient. You can't collect much more than 100% of what is available and if air temperature and water temperature are close this type of straightforward solar technology is highly efficient, more efficient than evacuated tubes not just on a dollar per dollar basis but also on a size for size basis.
